Happy Gut, Happy Pet: Prioritize Wellness This Month

October is National Pet Wellness Month. For pet owners, a pet’s health and wellbeing is a priority, but it never hurts to take stock of how we can help them maintain health and wellness. This time of year, there are a few things that can impact a pet’s overall wellbeing.

While Halloween is a time for celebration, there can be stressors that can have an impact on a pet’s wellness. The ringing of the doorbell as trick-or-treaters come by can put a dog or cat on edge, and the lingering bowls of candy can be unhealthy temptations for food motivated pets.

While a pet can’t tell you they are stressed, there are signs from changes in normal behavior to tummy issues. Fortunately, there are ways we can help pets cope.

One way to get ahead of the stress and help your pet is to be proactive with gut health by adding probiotics to your pet’s diet. Just as with humans, maintaining a healthy microbiome in pets can have positive impacts on the immune system as well as on anxiety.

For those food driven pets that find an extra treat in the candy that comes home, a bentonite clay like RX Clay is good to have on hand for detoxification.

Of course wellness is not simply about nutrition but activity is important, too. Pets need regular exercise and stimulation. This, too, can help them maintain balance when stressful situations arise.

So, for this National Pet Wellness Month, think about how you might help your pet thrive. Visit our pet supplements page to see how we can help you.
